The city of Jaipur in the State of Rajasthan in India is full of many historical site seeing places pertaining to Rajput Kingdom. We were able to visit Jaipur last January during our visit to India. We stayed at Jaipur for around four days to enjoy all the site seeing places. Jaipur is the capital city of the State of Rajasthan. Hava Mahal is one of the prime attractions of the city of Jaipur. I am going to cover brief review on our visit to Hava Mahal in Jaipur in this article.
Jaipur is well connected by all means of transportations like air, train, and the road. We traveled to Jaipur by train from the city of Vadodara. There is a night train leaving from Vadodara at around 9 pm that reaches Jaipur at around 7 am on the next morning. There are air conditioned coaches available in the train, which offer comfortable travel to all tourists. The city of Jaipur is around two miles away from the railway station. This city of Jaipur was established by Savai Raja Mansinha in the year 1727 and is famous today as the pink city of India. This is due to the fact that most of the buildings of the city are pink in color. There is a beautiful fort, 21 feet tall and 10 feet wide, all around the city of Jaipur. There are in all seven gates to the fort. Hava Mahal is the palace made by the King Savai Pratapsingh in the year 1799, specifically for the women of the royal family. The palace is situated in the old city area in the Sireh Devri market. This beautiful palace has five floors and is in pyramid shape in red bricks construction. There are lots of windows in Hava Mahal along with the curtains and the domes. The entire design is made in such a way that the flow of air is continuously passing through the entire palace. The women of the royal family were watching the beauty of the city by sitting at these windows. The construction of these windows is made in such a way that the people can watch outside world from inside the palace but the people from outside cannot see the people in the palace. This feature is really unique and attracts the attention of world famous architects. The other unique feature of this palace is that the flow of cool air is flowing in the entire palace due to design of the windows of the palace. That is why the name of Hava Mahal is given to this palace. There are three large attractive domes on top of the palace. The entire layout of the palace is such that the visitors enjoy the inner beauty of the palace thoroughly. The Hava Mahal remains open for the public from 10 am to 5 pm every day except the public holidays. You may keep at least half day slot for the visit of this palace.
There is also a small museum here at Hava Mahal that has many ancient and historical monuments stored of the Rajput age. The various weapons used by the Rajput army during the war against the Mogul Kings are kept here for the public view. There are many stuffed animals kept here, which were killed by the Rajput Kings in the various nearby forests. There are many nice hotels here at the city of Jaipur. We had stayed at the most famous Hotel Rambagh palace, which is situated in the main city area. This is really a luxury hotel having five stars facilities in an ancient Rajputana style. The rates for a deluxe double room at this Hotel Rambagh Palace are around Rs.10000 ($200) per day excluding all meals. This hotel is really unique and offers many unique facilities. There are four restaurants attached to this great hotel. There is also one luxury bar in the hotel that offers many unique and rare varieties of the drinks to all the tourists. Though, the cost of drinks at this bar is exorbitant to the tune of around Rs.1000 ($20) per small peg of 30 ml. of a scotch whisky.
